šŸ”„ The Framework of Every New Moon

Two truths emerge with each new moon: uncertainty and fear, alongside new beginnings. This understanding has crystallized through years of lunar observation. While new age traditions celebrate these moments as pure manifestation magic, ancient wisdom recognized them as periods of vulnerability—after all, there's no celestial light to guide us through the darkness.

I've come to see new moons as holding both realities. They can usher in languid days when bed feels like the only refuge, yet simultaneously birth fresh energy with each new cycle. Like standing at any threshold, there's an inevitable flutter of anxiety: what lies ahead?

The zodiac sign hosting each new moon reveals both the source of our unease and the nature of our potential renaissance. In Cancer, we encounter the Mother archetype in all her forms—our own mother, our capacity for mothering, the cosmic maternal force, the entire spectrum of parenthood. Here we grapple with safety and comfort, with the fierce protection that can either shelter or suffocate.

⭐ The Astrological Landscape

This year's new moon in Cancer finds Saturn sitting with Neptune square the new moon and Jupiter in Cancer. Saturn with Neptune is like a drunk dad, spiritually awakened president, or kooky principal—it's a spectrum that runs from deluded leader to enlightened master. With it square the new moon and Jupiter, some sweeping decisions about patriotism or cultural identity could take place by leaders during this time. Maybe your boss decides everyone has to represent the company in a new way, for example.

With Jupiter in the mix, the water sign Cancer's tears run longer, and distractions could abound. But new opportunities could also arise—brilliant chances to step out of your comfort zone. The best thing about a conjunction involving Jupiter is that small steps out of your comfort zone could be rewarded in big ways—yay!

In New York City, newcomer Zohran Mamdani won the political primary for mayor. One of his goals is to create city-run grocery stores that will have lower prices, which is certainly a progressive, creative, and public-spirited (Neptune) endeavor for a leader (Saturn), and it’s exactly this sort of initiative — food, nourishment — that the new moon in Cancer highlights.

Progressive is a word I tie not only to Neptune, but also to Jupiter, the planet of expansion. Anytime we're doing something new and different, Jupiter is nearby supporting us. Mamdani’s underdog win feels very Neptune/Saturn square Jupiter-on-the-Cancer-New-Moon to me.
