THIS WEEK AT A GLANCE: Are solutions found at the root of problems? Not always. Sometimes incredible healing takes place even if we don’t know where the issue came from.
It’s a chill week. New moon, new beginnings!
Week of May 6
Mercury in Aries meets Chiron in Aries at 10:27 PM on May 6 Sometimes knowing the root of a problem helps us solve it, sometimes it’s totally beside the point. A medicine doesn’t need to “know” how an infection took place in order to cure it. Yes, it’s smart to learn from past mistakes and not repeat them, but sometimes we find ourselves in situations with root causes that will never be found, and that does not need to mean we will not heal from these issues. For example, you don’t need to know how you came to fear spiders, to get over that fear. You and a partner might not remember what started the argument, but a truce can still be found. You could have a cold, but knowing who you got it from won’t speed up your healing.
A new way of thinking (Mercury) about healing (Chiron) could arise as they join in Aries, and in true Aries fashion, things could happen speedily, without hesitation, and with plenty of cheer at this time.
The sun in Taurus sextiles Saturn in Pisces at 1:42 AM on May 7 It’s a fabulous time to talk with elders and mentors. We’re getting comfortable in leadership positions. This might be a good time to focus on long term planning and to discuss the future. The sun symbolizes the self, and when the sun is in Taurus, our focus is on sensual awakening (yummy food, good cuddles, peaceful surroundings) and stability. Saturn symbolizes security, too, and in Pisces there’s a flexibility and creativity that blends well with the sun in Taurus. A warm, rooted feeling could be in the atmosphere.
The new moon in Taurus takes place at 11:22 PM on May 7 A new beginning is here and emotional awakenings may take place. This new moon is sandwiched between romantic Venus and happy-go-lucky Jupiter with electric Uranus in the mix, all in Taurus, which could mean that novel, unexpected opportunities and delights abound! Treat yourself to discovering new pleasures: go to an art show you usually wouldn’t make time to go to, or try cuisine that’s new to you. The sun’s supportive alignment with Saturn, and Mercury’s connection with Chiron, invites an energy of stability and helpfulness.
New moons can be frustrating times, especially if uncertainties and ambiguities hang in the air, but a sense of grounding and confidence could permeate the atmosphere during this year’s Taurus new moon.
Because new moons are a period of initiation into a new cycle, this can be a wonderful time to focus on ritual. I love to connect with the water element and either visit the beach or river, or have a luxurious bath at home (shout out to Witch Baby Soap). The water element is associated with emotion, as is the moon. (By the way, have you read my book The Moon Sign Guide?).
Leave a comment on this post and let me know how you honor the new moon.
